Getting a shot for today was insanely stressful! Approximately a month before leap day, I decided that I wanted a shot of a person that was actually celebrating their birthday on February 29th. This turned out to be harder than I thought. Not having found anyone the morning of, I got into a funk debating what type of picture I would come up with for the day. I joked around that there should just be a place where a bunch of people go to celebrate their birthday’s without fail… and there was. I sent a message to my wife telling her we had to go to Disneyland.

On February 29th, 2012, Disneyland was celebrating “An extra Disney day” by opening the park for 24 continuous hours. Let me just say that from the moment we got off the freeway to the time that we crossed the gates into the park took 2 hours and 15 minutes. By then it was around 9:15pm and I was definitely tired, cranky and even more stressed because I felt time was running out. As we crossed the Main Street threshold we immediately started seeing people with the “Happy Birthday” buttons. We stopped a well dressed young-man and confirmed if it was really his birthday. Once he confirmed, I wished him a happy birthday and explained my project. He agreed to let me take his picture while holding a small chalkboard with his “age” and we immediately left the park once I got my picture.

As we boarded the tram we heard the words “Sorry for the inconvenience, folks, but Disneyland is currently at capacity and they are not letting anyone else into the park at this time.” Wow. Just in time due to the kindness of people.

Thanks again, Anthony, and Happy Birthday!
