In 1927, Sears, Roebuck & Company opened a 1,800,000-square-foot mail distribution center in what is now known as the Boyle Heights section of Los Angeles. In 1992 the company discontinued the use of the facility as a mail center and vacated the building except for the ground floor which contains the retail store. The structure is now considered a landmark on the eastern side of Los Angeles.
