On my way into work this morning I decided that it would be great to get a picture of the sunrise to help symbolize the beginning of something new. I got to work, took an earlier lunch than I normally do and was on my way to get my shot. I got to Dockweiler Beach State Park and as the smell of the salty breeze hit my face, I took a deep breath. I grabbed my tripod then my camera bag and I was on the hunt to find a spot to take my picture. As I heard the sound of the waves crashing getting louder and louder I found a small sand dune by the Lifeguard tower and decide to setup there. Tripod… set. Camera… mounted. Turn the dial to it’s ‘On’ position…
‘No card in camera’
What?! I forgot my memory card?! How could I forget a memory card!? Check the bag! The sunrise is coming quick! No extra card. Damn. Keeping true to my last post, I took out my cell phone and did what I could to get a decent shot. Although not the best picture I’ve ever taken, I did get the job done. Day 1 complete.
I guess the upside is that I have my camera set to tell me that no card is inserted. I think I would have been far more disappointed had I continued shooting, got back to work and then realized that there was no card in the camera *sigh*.
The moral of this here story kids is to ALWAYS verify that you have a memory card in your camera prior to leaving for your shoot AND make sure you have an extra one in your bag.
Lesson learned, photo taken, project started… Hey man, this is a good day!
Very true. At least I didn’t chicken out and decide to postpone the beginning an extra day. 🙂
So glad you went through with it! You will have hiccups left and right, but go with it and in the end, you will have achieved a great milestone.
@Anitza Me too. I agree. I’m looking forward to next year. 364 days to go. 🙂
Ouch. I’ve learned that lesson the hard way too. I make it a point to never remove my card anymore. Nice job persevering in the face of adversity. 🙂
Hey, H:C…how’d the pictures turn out from Wayne’s Alhambra lecture in southern Cal? 🙂
good luck on day two
@Jeremy! They came out ok. Sorry I haven’t had a chance to get them up. I’ll do my best to take care of that within the next several days and send you a link when they’re up. 🙂
@Tiffany Thanks!
What a great project!! Thinking of starting one myself. Life moves so fast that it can be hard to remember what just happened yesterday. This is a great way to document and reflect on all of life’s moments. Happy picture taking!
