Hey everyone and Happy New Year!
I know that this post is about 8 or 9 days overdue but at least it’s still January. 🙂 With that said, I would like to say thanks for coming around every so often and reading my rants and musings over the past year! Although I can’t guarantee that my posts will be any more interesting in the year we made contact (2010), I can tell you with certainty that every time you come and read one of my blog entries, I will send you a piece of cake. Just kidding… but not really. I really will send you a piece of cake. Just kidding.
Although last year started with us in the hospital giving us a huge scare and even though it had its rough patches with problems that most people don’t ever expect to face, as I think back on 2009 I can say that it was still a phenomenal year! Amongst some of the most memorable things that happened were:
- we got a chance to reconnect with a lot of family that we had lost touch with
- my brother and I got to meet and become friends with our favorite magician
- in what turned out to be one of the funnest and best experiences of my life, we took an impromptu trip up to Sacramento to visit, meet and make friends within the magic community
- I celebrated the 1 year anniversary of this thing I call a website
- I’m pretty sure that we broke the record for going to Disneyland as pass holders by going 122,349 times. Which, incidentally, is an astonishing number considering there are only 365 days in a year (except leap year when there are 366) and we haven’t even had our passes a whole year yet (actual number of times physically gone to Disneyland may vary)
Most importantly, shortly before celebrating 2 wonderful years into our ‘Happily Ever After’, my wife and I found out that were going to have our first baby. “And may their first child be a masculine child.” He is. I know… because we cheated… we asked the doctor. 🙂
Now, 2010 is already gearing up to be a great year! Within the next couple of weeks we’re expecting the birth of our son and I can’t be more excited. It’s been a bit crazy trying to get everything together but it has also been extremely fun for us. I keep hearing from people that we’re not going to get this thing called “sleep” anymore but I didn’t know it actually existed. I mean, I’ve heard about this so-called “sleep” in fairy tales but I guess it’s an actual thing, like laser-shooting unicorns and pixies and junk. I guess that for the past 8 years, being 138% caffeinated/106% of the time has been helping me train for what is to come… GO ME!!!
So what do I really want this coming year and what do I want to accomplish? There’s actually a lot of stuff I would like this year, amongst them would be:
- First and foremost I want our son to be born healthy and (even though I know it’s going to be difficult) that it’s as easy as humanly possible for my wife
- I want to be the best daddy that I can be. I want us to pass on the same values that our parents passed on to us and others that we’ve learned along the way.
- Buy our house
- The magic nerd in me wants to dedicate more time to my magic and although I understand that it’s going to be difficult with a new baby, I’ll always do my best to find time.
- Buy a monkey
- I want to keep enjoying life with friends and family and keep reconnecting with those that we’ve lost touch with (for whatever reason that is).
- Work hard at not being such a dork.
- By the end of the year I want to, nay, I WILL know at least one cool way to cut cards!
- Work hard to provide that brief genuine moment of astonishment where all you can think is ‘what the fu..’.
- Live more according to the saying, “Do your best to not sweat the small shit because in the long run… it’s all small shit.”
So, before I bore you with the other 46 things on my list, I gotta say that there are a lot of new adventures and experiences coming up this year and I’m looking forward to all of them. Although I can say that I’m not looking forward to saying the words “I’m 30” this year, I can definitely say that “29+1” (thanks, Alejandra!) is gearing up to be a kick ass year.
Have a great year everyone!
yay! I’m so excietd for you and Lynette, I’m praying everything will be as smooth as possible for her and the baby. 🙂 p.s. Sean would totally be jealous if you got a monkey and he didn’t
marcus totally wants a monkey too!! but i looked it up, you need a special permit in california that is really hard to get………dumb! we should all get one anyway.
